Telegram's official components are open source, with the exception of the server which is closed-sourced and proprietary. There are also two official Telegram web twin apps, WebK and WebZ, and numerous unofficial clients that make use of Telegram's protocol. Various client apps are available for Smart TV, desktop and mobile platforms including official apps for Android, iOS, Windows, macOS, and Linux (although registration requires an iOS or Android device and a working phone number). The servers of Telegram are distributed worldwide with five data centers in different parts of the world, while the operational center is based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. It was launched for iOS on 14 August 2013 and Android on 20 October 2013. The application also provides optional end-to-end encrypted chats, popularly known as secret chat and video calling, VoIP, file sharing and several other features. It shows the apps are still in the early stage of development.Telegram Messenger is a globally accessible freemium, cross-platform, encrypted, cloud-based and centralized instant messaging (IM) service.

We got two new apps but both the apps have no calling support. It was expected that Telegram would release the calling feature for its web version. Recently, WhatsApp added calling support to its WhatsApp web version. In some cases, WebK just added a random letter instead of the first letter of the last name.īesides these, we can also notice a few other interface changes such as elements shadow and font-sizing. I noticed the WebZ version creates more accurate profile pictures than WebK.

It takes the first letter of first name & last name and creates the profile picture by combining the two letters. When a user does not set a profile picture, Telegram creates a profile picture out of the user’s full name. The search box’s background in WebZ is grey whereas in WebK it’s white. By default, WebK version muted the channel I had joined but WebZ did not mute any channel by default.īesides this, you can notice very minor differences in the color palettes of the two apps.

Also, notice the mute icon in the top right of the page of WebK.
